If you wait until the Black Friday ads are out and Starbucks unveils its holiday coffee cup designs to start thinking about what you want to do for your seasonal holiday job, its likely too late. So weve got some of the best part-time holiday gigs this year, to help you seize those early opportunities to make extra cash this holiday season. googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display(div-gpt-ad-1467144145037-0) ) But before you get started, there are a few checklist items you should have ready, so that youre ready to apply for jobs as they come upbecause seasonal hiring can move awfully fast.Get your resume application-ready. Have your interview outfit ready to go. For a seasonal job, this may be more casual than the traditional dark suit. Whatever outfit you choose, it should be neat (no loose threads or weird hems), cleaned, and ready to go at a moments noti ce.Get in the right mindset. Holiday jobs are likely to demand your time during unconventional or inconvenient shifts. Make koranvers your mental expectations are aligned with a potentially hectic schedule that doesnt leave you with a lot of free time or holiday down time.Lets look at some of the top opportunities this holiday season, from the classic (retail) to less orthodox jobs you may not have considered.Retail ausverkauf AssociateWhen you think of seasonal part-time job, you probably think of a role in a busy retail store, helping keep shelves stocked while hordes of holiday shoppers come through looking for the perfect gift. And thats because its a perennial opportunity for people looking for temporary work over the holidays. You dont need to commit to retail as a career for this kind of job, but it can also be a great experience-builder if you want to seek more retail opportunities in the future. This tends to be an all hands on deck kind of job. You may be tasked with assis ting customers on the floor, completing sales as a cashier, or working behind the scenes with inventory, merchandising, and stockingwhatever needs doing to accommodate the holiday crowds. If this is the route you want to take, start with the big retailers (Target, WalMart, Kohls, etc.), but dont be afraid to look at every store in your area and see if they have any help wanted notices popping up either in store or online. What youll need A good retail resume, strong customer tafelgeschirr skills to deal with every kind of customer imaginable, and time management skills. You may also be asked to work long or odd shifts throughout the holidays, so flexibility is key.Snow Removal Drivers/WorkersWe may still be firmly in autumn mode right now, but as the Starks tell us, winter is indeed coming. Many private snow removal companies and towns/cities are already looking ahead to the snowy season, hiring part-time and seasonal help to prepare for the winters storms. This is less of an option if you live in, say, Florida, but if you live in an area that sees its share of snow and ice over the winter months, it can be a good option. What youll need A valid drivers license and the ability to handle heavy equipment like plows, sanding trucks, and sidewalk snow removal tools.Christmas Tree WorkersThe holiday season means Christmas tree sales, either at dedicated tree farms/garden centers, or big schachtel stores that also sell trees (think Home Depot or Lowes). From Thanksgiving to Christmas, these employees help meet the influx of customers, selling and preparing trees for travel home, as well as selling and stocking other seasonal plants. What youll need The ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long shifts, and work outdoors in varying conditions.Seasonal ActorsAnother classic seasonal job is playing Santa (if youve got the girth and the lapbeard is usually provided for you), or his entourage (think elves and Mrs. Claus). This job has been a mainstay of malls and departm ent stores for decades and usually runs from Thanksgiving-ish through to Christmas. But Christmas actors arent the only ones who are needed on a seasonal basisif you look early enough (say, September), there are also a lot of Halloween-themed jobs available, working in haunted houses or amusement parks as scary extras. What youll need Acting skills, people skills, and customer tafelgeschirr skills.Seasonal PhotographersAll the Santas and the elves come with a very important seasonal role the photographer. Individual stores, malls, and events hire photographers every year to capture the holiday merriment for posterity. Seasonal photographers and assistants are responsible for taking photographs, taking orders, and potentially developing/editing photos as well. What youll need Portrait photography skills, photo editing skills, organizational skills (after all, no one wants mistakenly sent pictures of some other familys kid sitting on Santas lap), customer service skills, and problem sol ving skills, because camera snafus while theres a long line of people waiting to see Santa can be problematic. It also cant hurt if you have a knack for getting toddlers to smile at just the right time for a lasting photo.Election WorkersThis is one of the more unusual ones on the list, in that you may not think of it as a seasonal job. But the fact is that every November theres some kind of election going on in your town or district, and staff is needed to manage the voting process, check in voters, and ensure that election laws and best practices are being followed. Many polling places rely on volunteers, but some towns and cities hire poll workers to manage the crowds and ensure smooth voting and accurate reporting. What youll need Strong organizational skills, and a solid sense of civic duty.Warehouse WorkerBehind the retail scenes, there are thousands of warehouse workers needed to make sure that goods are getting where they need to go throughout the holiday season, whether that s store shelves or customer orders shipped directly. Companies like Amazon in particular bulk up its warehouse staff during the holiday season, in anticipation of keeping operations running at peak volume around the clock. Other top employers in this area include shipping companies like FedEx or UPS, which keep packages moving at a high volume to accommodate tight shipping deadlines and incredibly high demand. What youll need The stamina to work while standing for long periods of time, as well as the ability to lift heavy objects. These jobs may also involve the use of heavy equipment to move freight.Delivery DriverWarehouses arent the only logistics centers that need extra help during the holidays. Companies typically hire extra drivers for the season, to accommodate the higher volume of packages going in and out. What youll need A valid drivers license (and possibly a Commercial Drivers License as well), a clean driving record, and excellent navigation and time management skills.Cus tomer Service AssociateCustomer service is another major area where companies need extra help during the holiday season (and slightly beyond, to accommodate post-holiday issues with gifts). These seasonal employees may work on site or remotely via phone or internet chat to answer questions, help customers troubleshoot issues, and escalate as necessary. Customer service can be a round-the-clock proposition, so you can likely expect overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts. What youll need A solid customer service resume. Youll need customer service skills first and foremost, as well as tech skills like handling multi-line phones, recordkeeping software, and internet chat programs. Youll also need strong problem-solving skills, as much of your time may be spent helping to diagnose and resolve problems for customers.Tax AssociateNo one really likes to think about the looming tax season while in holiday mode, but after the new year has passed and life goes back to normal, seasonal tax assoc iates are in high demand. Tax preparation companies hire temporary employees to accommodate the demand from January through April. If you have a background in financial math and familiarity with the U.S. tax system, this can be a good gig for you in the post-holiday season. What youll need Strong math and accounting skills, a bachelors degree in a related field, and familiarity with tax preparation software. If youre looking for a part-time seasonal gig, you have lots of opportunities to match your skill set, interests, and availability. The retail-facing jobs are perennial favorites for a reason (consistency, plenty of jobs available), but if retail isnt your thing, there are lot of other options.

Fairygodboss Of The Week Naomi Mdudu

Fairygodboss Of The Week Naomi Mdudu Our Fairygodboss of the Week is as fashion-forward as she is successful. Naomi Mdudu went from serving as the first-ever fashion editor at a financial publication to founding her own media company in 2015. She creates career-focused content and fosters a space where women are encouraged to live their life by design, not by default. Read on to hear her inspiring work and story.Fairygodboss of the Week Naomi MduduFounder and CEO, The Lifestyle EditLondon, EnglandFGBTell us about your career. How did you get to where you are now?NM I studied law in university over something vocational. I welches very academic growing up and came from a very academic family, so studying something like journalism welchesnt on the cards for me. Looking back, Im so glad that I did. Studying law taught me to think analytically, write succinctly and taught me to think in a much more expansive way great foundations for everything Im doing now.Throughout school, I assisted a whole host of different stylists and magazine editors. As soon as my lectures finished, I would be rushing off to prep for a shoot or jumping on the Eurostar to Paris for fashion week. I loved styling, but after four years I realized that I welches more drawn to words as a form of storytelling and started freelancing, creating copy for brands in New York and London. Two weeks after graduating, I landed a job as a fashion editor of a financial newspaper (at the ripe age of 22) and worked in newspapers until I left in 2014 to start The Lifestyle Edit. Looking back, it was a huge amount of responsibility in my first newspaper job, I wastheir first-ever fashion editor and in all my roles, I was fortunate enough to be given free rein to shape the editorial tone and voice of the style sections. I learnt so much from how to craft a great piece to how to manage people. Im immensely grateful.FGB What is an accomplishment that you are proud of?NMThere are so many things Im proud of but hand s down the fruchtwein rewarding thing for me has been servicing this community. It was always my mission to create a platform that not only inspires women to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions but also walks them through the how. Its been amazing to see that mission through on the site, but also through our podcast, consulting agency and one-on-one coaching services with creative female founders.Reading emails from our community about how a story on the site sparked them to leave an unfulfilling nine to five and go full time with their side hustle, or how a podcast episode helped them secure funding for their business is something Ill never tire of. Its a really exciting time to be a female founder right now women are taking the helm of some of the most influential companies in the world were receiving more private investment than ever before, and theres a general spirit of optimism and community amongst female founders thats really exciting. Hopefully that will only continue in the coming years. Im certainly going to try to play my part.FGB What is a challenge that youve faced and overcome?NM Switching off is definitely a challenge as a business owner. To-do-lists are never completed theres always something you could be doing and there is never enough time in the day. I really began to make a shift in my business when I started becoming clear on distinguishing between must haves and nice to haves. I started honing in the jobs that I was uniquely positioned to doand built a team around everything else.It took me years to invest in outsourcing and I wish Id done it sooner rather than struggling to do everything myself. I know, I know, youre afraid of spending a lot of money, but the truth is, the more time you have to work on your business, the more time you have to earn money for your business. If youre doing everything, chances are youre dropping the ball on certain things. Even if new business was to come along, you wouldnt be able to take it on. When I finally invested in people, I started to enjoy a level of freedom I just hadnt experienced before. In that freedom, I was able to think creatively again. The more I outsource to people who are experts in the areas that Im not, the more my business grows. Now, Im constantly thinking about ways I can expand my team to add people who are passionate about the areas that most impact our bottom line. Today, my days are guided by how I want to feel and not just feeling a slave to a to-do list. I carve time for myself to pray, exercise, meditate, listen to podcasts and enjoy a cup of tea in the morning before even thinking about touching my phone. I make time for all of the things that make me feel good and balanced, which then makes me far better at my job.FGBWhat is the 1 career tip youd like to share with other women who want to have successful careers like you?NM Get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. Growing professionally means pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. Your d reams are on the other side of your fears. Also, be kind to yourself. Cultivate a definition of success on your own terms. Listen to advice but trust your instinct.FGB Who is YOUR Fairygodboss? Why? NM Its impossible to name just one I feel so fortunate that I get to meet and interview so many incredible women for The Lifestyle Edit. I always joke that every day feels like Im getting an MBA in business but its true. Those conversations are constantly teaching me new lessons about everything from leadership and strategic thinking to the power of self-care and setting boundaries. Im forever in student mode and I love that.FGB What do you do when youre not working?NMIf I had it my way, Id spend the majority of the year traveling. Im constantly adding new locations to my bucket list of destinations. Right now, I have my eyes set on Bali, Tulum and Jordan.FGB If you could have dinner with one famous person dead or alive who would it be?NM Super cliche but Oprah, because, I mean, its Op rah Shes a self-made woman and has created one of the most respected brands in the world. I marvel at the way shes constantly evolving, expanding into new verticals, etc.Lightning Round FGB What is your karaoke song?NMOooh thats a tough one. I have a lot but probably, Torn by Natalie Imbruglia.FGB What book would you take with you on a desert island?NMAnything written by Danielle LaPorte. What would you buy if you won the lottery?NM A house on the beach.--Fairygodboss is all about women helping other women - so each week, we celebrate a woman who made a difference in another womans career. Aviation Boatswains Mate - Fuels (ABF)

Aviation Boatswains Mate - Fuels (ABF)Aviation Boatswains Mate - Fuels (ABF)U.S. Navy Aviation Boatswains Mates play a major part in launching and recovering naval aircraft quickly and safely from land or ships. This includes aircraft fueling and fuel systems. Later in their careers, ABs can earn the advanced AB rating that requires supervision of all three individual specialties. Duties of Navy Aviation Boatswains Mates The sailors who are part of the AB fuels role are responsible for operating, maintaining and performing organizational maintenance on aviation fueling and lubricating oil systems. They observe and enforce safety precautions and maintain fuel quality surveillance and control when handling aviation fuel systems. They also supervise the operation and servicing of fuel farms and equipment associated with the fueling and de-fueling of aircraft ashore and afloat. In addition, they train and supervise Navy firefighting crews, and offer assistance when necessary to fire rescue teams and damage control parties. Working Environment Most of the work in this rating is performed outdoors, often on the decks of aircraft carriers, in all climates and conditions, in fast-paced and often potentially hazardous environments. ABs work closely with others in aviation ratings. This is a job that requires the ability to work under pressure and good manual dexterity. Safety measures must be followed closely, so attention to detail is important. A lot of the work is repetitive, so those who can concentrate for long periods will do well in this job. Training and Qualifying as a Boatswains Mate To be eligible for this job, a candidate needs a combined score of 184 on the verbal, arithmetic, mechanical knowledge and auto and shop segments of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests. There is no Department of Defense security clearance required for this job. But, youll need a vision of 20/100 correctable to 20/20, normal color perception and normal range hearing. After basic training, these sailors will spend 36 days in A school, or technical school in Pensacola, Florida for roughly five weeks, where theyll learn basic aviation skills and theory and the specific skills theyll need for handling fuel and other equipment. Following basic and A school, boatswains mates may be assigned to aircraft carriers, any number of amphibious assault ships, or to a Naval Air Station. Its also possible they could be assigned to other types of ships that transport planes or helicopters. Sea/Shore Rotation for This Rating First Sea Tour 60 monthsFirst Shore Tour 36 monthsSecond Sea Tour 60 monthsSecond Shore Tour 36 monthsThird Sea Tour 48 monthsThird Shore Tour 36 monthsFourth Sea Tour 48 monthsFourth Shore Tour 36 months Sea tours and shore tours for sailors who have completed four sea tours will be 36 months at sea followed by 36 months ashore until retirement. ABF is a sea-intensive community. Manning conditions at sea may requir e the need to request sea tour extension or shore tour curtailments to ensure all sea duty billets are filled. As of 2017, the outlook for placement in boatswains jobs was good, and about 11,000 men and women were in one of the three boatswain specialties.
